My son, Spc. Michael Patrick Pittman, died in Baghdad, Iraq June 15, 2007, the same day that he re-enlisted in the Army. That was on Friday. His body arrived at the Quad City Airport in Davenport, Iowa the following Thursday. The Patriot Guard showed up and led the hearse to the funeral home. What a comfort they were. They were there at Michael's visitation that evening and they led the hearse to the church the next morning and stood at attention through out the ceremony and then they led the procession to the Memorial Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. They were a blessing to us then. Now, they sponsor a dinner every year during the Healing Fields. I cannot say enough good about them. The Quad Cities has lost alot of its men to the war and they have been there for every one of them. Thank you Patriot Guard for the respect you have for America's Heroes and thank you for the repect you have for the Gold Star Families. God Bless everyone of you.

The Patriot Guard Riders are more than a counter-protest group! True, it was formed to combat the hatred of Fred Phelps and his ilk. And it always will perform that mission. Yet it has morphed into something more - a bunch of patriots who wish to pay their respects to a fallen hero and his/her family.

I am the Northern California coordinator and I am neither a vet nor a biker. Just a patriot with love for her country and military.

Mark, first of all, thanks for the promotion from third world county to third world countRy.

:-)

I've been trying to think "big" anyway...

Then, ya know this Phelps bunch really chaps my gizzard. They're neither Christian nor Baptist. I've checked them out in the past, and they're nothing but a nest of snakes. I'm very grateful for organizations like the Patriot Riders. And calling attention to them this way is a Very Good Thing, IMO.
